Race against the storm

February 24, 2011

I’m taking this week off work to prepare for the Oscars – literally every piece of furniture in our house moves. After a day of preparing for the (shock! horror!) of rain during arrivals, I declare we are 75% ready in the room with the bar, 100% in the back porch and 100% in Henry’s room.

Then I took some time to complete a review of True Grit. Add your comments!  This was a difficult movie to review.

Looking forward to Sunday!

The King’s Speech

February 15, 2011

New review of “The King’s Speech” (thank you LadyOscar23!). 12 nominations for the film – should be an interesting battle on Oscar night!

Harry Potter!

February 11, 2011

New review of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One ! Good movie. Tough competition in the nominated categories.

Unfunny Valentine

February 9, 2011

New review of Blue Valentine (and reviews of all the movies we’ve watched so far at the 2010 (Nominated) Movies – Reviews page).

Blue Valentine was a tough movie to watch, and a tough movie to review. I was surprised at how much I liked in the movie, and yet it still falls short of greatness. Bravo to the cast and art direction, however.

Fracking

February 6, 2011

New review of Gasland.

Trailer from HBO:

Dog time

February 6, 2011

One year of human-time corresponds seven for dogs, at least according to the popular myth. See “Dogtooth” and live through several  dog-years (new review of Dogtooth available).

Invitations, Exit and Alice

February 6, 2011

Invitations to the 22nd (almost) annual black-and-white soiree are out!

Also, new reviews of Alice in Wonderland, and Exit Through The Gift Shop.

Salt

January 30, 2011

New review of Salt. A fine installment in the action film genre. Set-up to be another Bourne franchise, time will tell if this Salt keeps well.

Swan Soup

January 29, 2011

A new review of Black Swan.

A total thumbs-up for the contributed review, and … a thumbs-down for the film.

Want to experience an insightful insight into madness? Try Apocalypse Now, for example. As a superficial exposition, Black Swan offers a monotonic insight into this world.

Good performance(s), and not much more.

Good dragon

January 24, 2011

New review for How To Train Your Dragon. Good dragon!
